For the first time in history of DNB, Counselling has been conducted online and freedom to choose has given way to freedom to list. Trying to keep up with this sudden change has been difficult for most of you including us, but to keep things sorted we have brought trend comparisons for you this year. The million dollar question that has been revolving in everyone’s mind is what will one get in Mop up round and whether the trends are positive or negative. Well ! We have tried to compile and analyze all the data so far and it should end your apprehensions about DNB Councelling and Mop up round for the most part.
If you look at the table below, one thing is very clear that there has been a rank shift from R1 to R2 and its positive for all branches. Secondly for almost all branches barring 3 the rank shift has been positive if compared to previous year, despite upgradation being introduced by NBE from this year.

| OBGY | negative | 14000-16000 |
While trends are positive for most branches, three branches have witnessed a negative trend. Negative shift for Dermatology and Psychiatry is probably due to increase in demand as these are end branches and relatively stress free-violence free. But its impossible to know why people chose OBGY more this year?? Guesses anyone??
It is highly likely that the overall trend will remain same as last year for final round of councelling so those between 10000-20000 rank may get what they want and 20000-25000 have a fair chance at clinicals. Those beyond this may also attend the Mop up round and hope for the best. You never know it could turn out to be a lottery for some of you!
