Civil hospital Aizawl is a 350 Bedded  Hospital ,which was established in 1896 and caters finest of medical services to small population here. All facilities for the best medical care of patients are available in the Hospital . Dr. Vikas kaushik while working extremely hard to get his dream branch paediatrics never thought he would be lucky to get to learn it in Aizawl the capital of state Mizoram , beautiful place  to live ,where  you can enjoy natures beauty while you are surrounded by very peaceful people. My rank was 3773

How many consultants are there in your department in the concerned specialty ?         

There are 4 consultants, 1 DCH candidate , 2 medical officers and  2 DNB candidates.

What are the usual working hours?

6 to 8 hrs

How many emergency duties per week and describe work if possible.

Around 8 to 10 emergency duties in a month.

Work load is quite good as it is the biggest government setup in Mizoram and also a referral centre. Patients load is quite good.

Are you allowed to touch the patient ? Please describe the procedures you have done .:

Definitely ,its a government  setup ,so you are free to touch the patients.

I have done all basic procedures of paediatrics, to list a few,

1.Intubation

2.DVET

3.Tapping

4.Umbilical vein cath etc

How are the academics? Any case presentations done?

Academics wise this institute is not at par but yes the .Consultants will share some knowledge during rounds but not much of classes are held according to scheduled timetable.You have to study on your own. You can present seminar if you want to, So its upto your own interest. Obviously taking keen interest, being persistent and hardwork will bring success.

How is the pass rate?? Have your seniors passed?         

My senior just appeared for the finals. Hopefully he will pass; passing depends totally on individual candidate. Passing DNB theory depends totally on you , as you have to study your books in and out. For practicals   you can attend classes, additionally this being a government setup with good patient load you gain lot of practical experience which basically is the key to clearing DNB practicals.

How satisfied are you with your choice?

I am totally satisfied

Any other departments at your institution good for DNB?          

From what i know,  medicine ,gynaecology and surgery.(For details please contact concerned resident doctors in respective departments)

Stipend and accommodation details:    

Accommodation is good and free of cost

Stipend is 25k,27k,29k for 1st,2nd and final year respectively.

Any other information  would you like to give?

Place is very beautiful and serene, good to live , people are very peaceful ,you can be in lap of nature and enjoy it’s beauty.

Why did you choose this hospital?         

1. I wanted to do paediatrics

2.It is a government set up with good patient load

3.It was the best choice available.
