What was your rank in DNB and your colleagues rank ?

My rank- 502 Colleagues- 430, 468 & 492

How many consultants are there in your department in the concerned specialty?

What are the usual working hours??

8AM to 6PM on an average. It may be more or less depending on the inpatient load.

How many emergency duties per week?

6 to 8 per month. Duties are moderately hectic with casualty, step down ICU & ward calls

Are you allowed to touch the patient??

Yes. We are free to examine & evaluate any patient in the hospital irrespective of the department. Most of the consultants (including those in superspeciality departments) make us see the patients first in the casualty, evaluate & manage as per standard protocols. In case of doubt we can discuss with the consultant. Lumbar puncture & bone marrow aspiration were the procedures I could do so far. Intubation & establishing central line can be learned in Medical ICU posting.

How are the academics? Any case presentations done?

Many cases & seminars were presented by us so far. 2 to 3 cases & 2 seminars per week on an average. Head of the department is very passionate to teach. He encourages us to publish articles & cases in various journals. Presentation in various CMEs & national conferences is a must. Internal medicine department of Calicut medical college is proactive in conducting academic sessions in the city on a regular basis. It’s an added advantage.

How is the pass rate??

100% so far. Last 2 batches passed out in 1st attempt.

How satisfied are you with your choice?

Very satisfied

Any other departments at your institution good for DNB??

Anesthesia,Emergency medicine, Paediatrics & Urology are good

Stipend and accomodation details

Accommodation is provided by the institute

Any other info you would like to give?

We are very lucky for being the students of Prof. Dr. Bhargavan, our HOD. He's a knowledge bank who believes in clinical diagnosis rather than investigations & managing cases as per protocols from standard textbooks. He also expects us to do the same.

Why did you choose this hospital?

  1. Good reputation of the institute
  2. Pass percentage is good
  3. Head of the department is a very good teacher
  4. Many renowned professors & good teachers in various superspeciality departments
