What was your rank in DNB ?

How many consultants are there in your department in the concerned specialty?

There is no established department of family medicine but you get to interact with consultants of various departments where you are posted like medicine, surgery, paediatrics etc

What are the usual working hours??

Depends on the work load and the department in which you are posted

On an average 10-12 hours per day with one call per week if you are posted in ward. Post call half day off usually you get.

How many emergency duties per week ?

Usually one per week, but it depends on the department in which you are posted.

In wards you have to take admission, do discharges, give rounds to consultants and manage emergency if any. This is applicable for medicine, surgery, paediatrics posting. If you are posted in casualty you have to manage medical cases on your own fully and also surgical and other cases if you can. Help can be asked for non medical cases , but medical cases you have to manage single handedly.

Are you allowed to touch the patient ?? Can you describe the procedures you have done?

Yes, you are! Though being a tertiary care private institute, you are the first contact for the patient. You get to examine the patient in detail and also start treatment. Basic ward procedures like ryle's tube, folley's catheterization, dressings, incision and drainages(small), suturing you get to do.

Procedures like pleural tapping, ascitic fluid tapping, lumbar puncture for ward patients are usually done by usg guidance or by senior consultant.

How are the academics? Any case presentations done?

Average overall. Fortnightly lectures are arranged.  Once a month PG clinic is arranged. Also you get to attend outside conferences if you wish to.

How is the pass rate?? Have your seniors passed?

Mine is the first batch. For other specialities, overall pass rate is good

How satisfied are you with your choice?

Any other departments at your institution good for DNB??
