We have total 6 consultants (4 senior consultants, 2 junior consultants).

Apollo hospital, Bhubaneswar is a 350 bedded hospital, the most well running hospital in our city, and the only good tertiary referral centre for city as well as periphery, as AIIMS Bhubaneswar is still not fully functional and the other nearby medical college is in cuttack which is 50 kms away.

Our department has

3 usg machines logiq p6,voluson 730 and voluson E6 equipped with elastography.

One 64 slice CT scan

One 1.5 tesla MRI

Mammography, DEXA scan,2 digital radiography units

There is moderate case load with full day OPD,

100-140 USGs

30-40 CT

10 -15 MRI

150 -200 XRAY

Barium procedures like HSG, MCU, RGU, etc are limited, as little as 3-4 cases a week.

Our HOD is interventional radiologist,, so we are allowed to assist with him in CATH lab in procedures like EVLT, TACE, PTBDS,SCLEROTHERAPY etc. For first two months we are rotated in XRAY and USG for observation and demonstrations by consultants. Independent USG reporting is given to us after 6 months. Obstetric Usg not given in first year,, due to PNDT issues. By 8-9 months we are allowed to do CT reporting, which is rechecked by our consultants.

Are you allowed to touch the patient ?? please describe the procedures you have done

Yes we get a handsome amount of free hand, which is satisfying. It is not a government hospital so there is no free to think and ink sort of thing,, but we get the best quality reporting to see and practical things to learn from our friendly consultants. Minor surgical procedures like HSG, MCU, therapeutic tappings are on our will to learn and do.

How are the academics? Any case presentations done?

Academics are good. We have a fortnight seminar in first year and journal presentation from 2nd year. Our visiting senior consultant, who is our thesis guide, comes for 7days monthly and delivers classes.
