MR Bangur Hospital, an ISO 9001:2008 certified Government Hospital, is the district hospital of South 24 Parganas. It serves the massive population of the district as well as the adjoining metropolitan area. The various clinics in the OPD serves around 1200 – 1500 patients per day and around 150 patients are admitted daily to be dispensed medical attention of various nature. The hospital is currently equipped to serve patients in 650 beds with new facilities being added each day. How many consultants are there in your department in the concerned specialty ?

Five at present (4 are on temporary basis/1 as permanent/out of four one is pediatric surgeon)

What are the usual working hours??

Working hours are NOT FIXED; still 48 hours minimum; we on our own prefer to work more for all units so that we get hands on in all the units.

How many emergency duties per week/month?

Initially 36 hours for newcomers (so that they can clear their hands; later 24 hours in first year)

What all surgeries you have performed till now?

I have not yet completed first year, but  surgeries I have done are:

Are you allowed to touch the patient??

YES , people out here are really cooperative; if you can take surgeons in your confidence with your works, the OT is yours

How are the academics? any case presentations done?

Institute has minimal academics ; but one reputed teacher/professor, Dr. Ramanuj Mukherjee do teach surgery out of his passion (to all students of DNB  surgery in Kolkata) & free of cost; he is really a passionate teacher and an excellent DNB examiner; his classes are more than enough.

How is the pass rate?? have your seniors passed.?

Except one all have passed in the first attempt

How satisfied are you with your choice?

Very satisfied

Any other departments at your institution good for DNB??

34000, 36000, 38000 (Given to all pgs all over West Bengal MD/MS/DNB)

Any other info you would like to give?

There is well dedicated burn unit of 70 beds other than general surgery with 3 plastic surgeon present there; you can go there and learn a lot.

Why did you choose this hospital?

1. Last year it was best for my rank (As I was keen for general surgery)

2. I heard we can get lots hands on here

3. Kolkata was one of the cities which I preferred.
