Top Notch : DNB Radiodiagnosis at Manipal hospital, Bangalore

Manipal Hospital ,Bangalore is part of the third largest healthcare network in India and is serving patients since 25 years. The hospital not only offers quaternary care to its patients but also has a reputation of being one of the best at it especially in South India. Dr Mrinal Matish who joined DNB Radiodiagnosis here an year back is very satisfied with her choice and answers some questions about this place based on her experience so far. What was your rank in DNB?

My rank was 434, my two colleagues rank were somewhere in 350s and 520s

How many consultants are there in your department in the concerned specialty?

We have 8 consultants; one of them is interventional radiologist, one musculoskeletal specialist, two neuro radiology specialist and one gynaecological imaging specialist

What are the usual working hours??

Morning 9 to evening 6

How many emergency duties per week?

We get 1-2 night duties per week; each night duty is for 30 hours, not very hectic always.

Are you allowed to touch the patient ??

We are allowed to do and report almost all the modalities including Xray, USG , CT, MRIand conventional procedures. We have two CT scanners, 16 and 64 slice, 1.5 tesla MR, soon 3Tesla MRI machine is going to come, four GE and one Philips ultrasound machines. Antenatal scanning is a separate department of Fetal Medicine in our hospital and we get one month posting there in final year.

How are the academics? Any case presentations done?

Academics are fair enough; we have one case discussion and one seminar every week presented by the residents. There are grand rounds every Wednesday which is interdepartmental interesting case discussion.

How is the pass rate??

Till now, all the seniors have passed.

How satisfied are you with your choice?

Very satisfied

Stipend and accommodation details:

30k in 1st year, 35k in 2nd year and 40k in final year, No accommodation is provided by the hospital. You can live as paying guests nearby

Why did you choose this hospital?

I chose this hospital coz Manipal has a good reputation, it's patient load , exposure is very good  and passing rate has been 100% till now.
