5 permanent consultants with 4 honorary consultants.
What are the usual working hours??
Depends on the posting.
How many emergency duties per week ?
NICU call every 3rd day. Starting 9am till next day 1pm. Includes NICU duties, labor room calls, lscs calls , PNC rounds. PICU Every third or second day call depending on number of people posted which lasts 24 hrs. WARDS every alternate day call with every alternate call as first on call which is a 30 hour call. Ward strength usually depends on the month. Rainfall sees increase in admission rate. Up to 20 per day. Otherwise around 10 per day.
Are you allowed to touch the patient??
Yes. Being a tertiary care government run hospital, patient influx is good. Pediatrics department has PICU, so sick patients too are referred here. As a secondary DNB candidate, you are given full free hand to practice. In the past 7 months post joining, I have done intubation, ventilation, PICC insertion, and intraosseous line insertion to name a few. Recently department has started doing peritoneal dialysis as well.
How are the academics? Any case presentations done?
Academic activities do happen including seminars, case presentation, journal clubs, group reading. But again depends on the time of the year, as and when time permits. Being a medical College, every UG clinics teaching and lecture are undertaken.
