Hello Folks !! I had recently written an article which commented on the recent news of DNB getting downgraded which came in a leading national daily. In response to the news paper article and the recent rumour that DNB has got downgraded Natboard and the ministry of health have issued a notice on the website. From the notice it is apparent that the only guideline that was changed by MCI was the number of years of experience required by DNB candidate to be eligible for the post of Associate professor. However this move has been turned down by the Heath ministry which is evident in the following directives quoted from the notice itself
” 2. I am also directed to inform that the minutes of Executive Committee (EC) and General Body (GB) of the Council cannot overrule the provisions of the regulations which are notified in Gazette of India with prior approval of the Government of India. Further, it has also been came to notice of this Ministry that on the basis of decisions of EC and GB of the Council, the Council has already circulated the amendment, which is not yet published in the Official Gazette with the approval of Central Government, to all Directors of Medical Education/State Health Secretaries/ medical colleges amending number of years of teaching experience required for promotion to the post of Associate Professor and Professor.
3. In view of this, it is informed that all the circulars issued on subjects where MCI’s regulations are there, the MCI’s EC/GB decision cannot overrule provisions of the Regulations. Therefore, all such circulars issued contrary to provisions of the Regulations to be kept in abeyance. We are notifying this in the website of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare also. “
