What are the usual working hours ?

Honestly, in the first year atleast there are no designated working hours. Even if you are not on call, you have indoor patients to look after and attend to. Work gets progressively easier in the second and third year. I guess this is the story of every medical college. On a typical on call day(emerg), if you are lucky, you can squeeze in 3-4 hours of sleep at night. On off call days you can get about 5 hours of sleep easy in the first year.

How many emergency duties per week and decribe work if possible.

There are 2 emergency duties per week with every third Sunday as there are 3 units. A typical call day for a first year resident starts with rounding up patients in the wards and icu at 6.am. followed by rounds with second and final yr residents. OPD begins at 9am and runs till 4pm during which admissions happen from OPD and casualty. Post OPD first yrs are expected to take histories of admitted patients and ready rounds for second and final yr residents. After 4pm there are admissions from casualty in the on call unit. Not to forget references from other departments. This usually keeps you busy for 24hours. Off call days are calmer with morning rounds with senior residents and professors and evening rounds with residents again.

Are you allowed to touch the patient ? please describe the procedures you have done .

Free hand is excellent! Just like any government institute. You will get to do every procedure in the book. Personally I have done LP, ascitic, pleural tap assisted bone marrow biopsies. Going forward I have no doubt you will get to do all sorts of procedures, intubations , lines etc. More importantly you can make all decisions regarding management of patients, including antibiotics, investigations etc.

How are the academics? any case presentations done?

Academics are great! There are rounds everyday. And these are actual teaching rounds conducted by SRs , professors and HOUs Case presentations – twice a month approx.

How is the pass rate?? have your seniors passed.

100% for the past 12 years

How satisfied are you with your choice?

Super Satisfied !!

Any other departments at your institution good for MD/DNB??

Stipend and accommodation details

Why did you chose this hospital?

1. This is a medical college. So it’s a teaching hospital rather than a corporate set up.

2. Excellent patient load and free hand.

3. Good academics.

4. All investigations carried out in house I could hardly find a downside to this place.
