Overview : DNB General Medicine at Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial hospital,Bhilai

DNB General Medicine is always in high demand because DNB is very well known for its clinicals. For the same reason General medicine seats are almost always completely taken at very good ranks and people between 600-1000 ranks often face problems choosing an institute in July Session. Dr Rajanya patel who is a regular follower of faced a similar scenario two years back but ultimately decided to leave Gujrat and take up General Medicine at Chadulal Chandrakar Memorial hospital,Bhilai which is has also started a Private Medical College nearby recently. He answers some questions to give us an overview about this hospital.

What was Your rank in DNB?

In June 2014 around 624 as I am in 2nd year now.

How many consultants are there in your department in the concerned specialty?

3 consultants and single unit.

What are the usual working hours??     

For 1st year around 14 hrs, 2nd year 10 hrs, 3rd year around 8 hours.

How many emergency duties per week?

3 duties on average including casualty and ICU duties in 1st year.

During 2nd year around we have 2 ICCU duties also per week In addition to daily OPD and ward rounds in morning and evening. In OPD we can write prescriptions on our own along with our consultant.

Are you allowed to touch the patient?? Can you describe some procedures you have done?    

Yes this is the most precious advantage of this institution. We are allowed to examine every patient 1st hand from ICU to casualty any time and manage them by ourselves. Within 1st week of joining I had done intubations, central lines, ascitic and pleural tapping, lumbar puncture etc

How are the academics? Any case presentations done?                  

Academics are about average with around 2 classes in a week. Case presentations and slide show presentation are done once in two weeks.

How is the pass rate?? Have your seniors passed?

It’s good among previous 9 batches most of the candidates have passed. Last 4 batches all have passed.

How satisfied are you with your choice?

Very satisfied

Any other departments at your institution good for DNB??

Yes orthopaedics and paediatrics are good. For more information contact resident from respective department.

Stipend and accommodation details:

43000, 45000 and 47000 in respective years

Accommodation provided in campus and is good

Any other info you would like to give?

Being a domicile of Gujarat, I left Institutes of surat for this place in my 1st DNB attempt and I am very satisfied with my choice. It has all that is required in post graduation. This is private institution where major postings are in neuro and cardiac department after general medicine.

Why did you choose this hospital?         

I am great fan of medicine and i choose this institute because of:

2. Huge variety of cases

3. Neuro and cardiac dept are very good which cornerstones of medicine are
