GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
- Whatsapp groups have become a sensation to discuss possibilities at your rank and also for gathering information about various hospitals. But beware these very groups will make you loose your favorite seat as people on ranks before you will grab the hospital that you were hoping for if you disclose its details. So be patient and dont join any whatsapp groups made by fellow candidates, you will end up loosing your choice of hospital.
- When it comes to DNB Councelling, one needs to understand that things are different when compared to AIPG councelling. Just because an institute is located in metro city doesnt mean its good. Also ready made preference list cannot be issued or followed by a candidate. Its possible in AIPG but not in DNB, many people have followed ready made preference lists in DNB and have ended up feeling dissatisfied. The decision of doing DNB is going to be the biggest decision of your life, so think about all the aspects and don’t just blindly follow preference lists. It all depends on what you want and where you are comfortable. The hospital in your town offering DNB might not be the best hospital for DNB, but because its in your town, you will have the comfort of home while writing final exam, which will be more beneficial than going to an unknown place for a good salary and zero academics. You should keep in mind that pass rates are around 50-70 % in DNB , so passing should be your final aim. Studying in a good institute would definetly help you pass, but studying at home during exam or during your residency will also help. One needs to consider these factors while choosing an institute.
- For a Post diploma DNB Candidate it is advisable to do DNB from Private hospital if he has done in Govt setup, or vice versa, to get good experience of both worlds, but it still depends on your preference. Dont fall prey to preference lists, this is a one time decision, DNB is not as easy as MD where you may get internal support for passing, so think and gather as much info about a hospital before joining.
Step 1 : Choose a branch – Some people are always confused what to choose so to simplify things for you : if you want to sit your entire lives choose medicine or its subspecialities, if you want to stand your entire lives, then choose surgical branches, if you want to stand for seven lives, choose superspecialty surgical courses and finally if you have an aptitude for clicking fancy images/photographs apart from selfies then choose Radiodiagnosis.
Step 2 : log on to FreeAssociation.in , read the latest blogs about DNB.
Check out the best institutes for DNB section at the home page. You can also use the search function on home page to look for relevant material and blog archive to the right side of the page.
Check out the DNB FAQ section here
Check out passing rates in your desired Branch here
Step 3 : Confirm this info by calling hospitals and talking to one of the residents there, or try to find the info on the DNB Cet exam & Counselling Aid group on facebook . You can find Hospital Phone numbers here this is a very imporatant step.
Step 4 : Prepare a Priority list of hospitals. Here are some samples

Step 5 : Keep this Priority list with you at the time of councelling and follow the updates regularly. Visit Natboard site and FreeAssociation.in Regularly for updates
We strongly advice you to not fall prey to ready made preference orders , do your own research by reading blogs and calling up residents from respective hospitals. Also dont discuss anything on whatsapp groups made by other students, as the very same people will grab your seat in the councelling if there rank is before you.
